Biography

Vincenzo Di Piazza is a Lieutenant Colonel of Italian State Police, Deputy Director of the Cybersecurity Operational Center (C.O.S.C.) – Postal and Communications Police – Western Sicily. Born and raised in Palermo, he trained in the legal field, graduating in law and obtaining a specialization diploma for legal professions and a PhD in international private law.

After qualifying as a lawyer, he won the competition for commissioners of the State Police and attended the Higher Police School in Rome from 2012 to 2013, also obtaining a second level master’s degree in security sciences. From 2014 to 2017 he was Deputy Director of the Investigative Team of Agrigento’s Police Headquarters and dealt with investigations to combat organized crime of a mafia nature, drug trafficking, computer crimes, aiding and abetting illegal immigration, homicides and gender violence.

As an official of the Agrigento Police Headquarters, he also participated in public order services, directing the related activities at the migrant Hotspot center on the island of Lampedusa. Since 2018 he has directed the investigative sector to combat financial cybercrime of the Postal Police of Palermo, coordinating the investigations concerning computer crimes in the provinces of Western Sicily. In the last year he took over the deputy management of C.O.S.C. Western Sicily, also dealing with the investigative sector to combat online child pornography and leading the Cybersecurity Operational Unit specialized in attacks on critical state IT infrastructures. In February 2022 he was appointed as the strategic contact point / Focal Point for Italy in the so-called Cibel@ Network (Fight against cybercrime Europe Latin America), within the framework of the El PACcTO Program (Assistance Program against transnational organized crime – Europe Latin America).

Within the framework of the aforementioned El PACcTO Program, he was also appointed as the strategic contact point / Focal Point for Italy in the so-called Elipsia Network, holding in the last year the role of executive undersecretary, of liaison for the Countries of the European Union. Since 2022 he has held the role of Short Time Expert – as an expert in investigations on criminal phenomena attributable to “High Tech Crime” in the EU project “Facility supporting Serbia in achieving the objectives of Chapter24: Justice, Freedom and Security”
